Ash Flat, Ark. — When police responded to the report of an early morning traffic accident on Highway 62 here, they found the driver, Severin Bernard Simpson, 25, of Batesville, Ark., dead in the driver’s seat of an apparent gun shot wound to the head.
The Sharp County Sheriff’s Office said a female passenger in the vehicle told them that two other people were in the vehicle at the time of the accident and had fled the scene. Police said they were told that Christopher Bryant, a passenger in the vehicle, shot the driver while the vehicle was in transit.
By early afternoon police got a call from a motorist describing a male of Bryant’s description crossing Highway 62 at Branscum Road and going into the woods.
Bryant was apprehended without incident and is being held at the Sharp County Jail tonight on a charge of First Degree Murder. The victim is being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
