Bentonville, Ark. — A Feb. 28 hearing date has been set here for Zachary Holly, the accused killer of 6-year-old Jersey Bridgeman. Holly pled not guilty to the four charges against him Monday. He was to be appointed new legal counsel after the local public defenders office filed a motion to withdraw from the case.
Holly is charged with rape, murder, kidnapping and residential burglary.
He was Jersey Bridgeman’s next door neighbor, and he and his wife had babysat Jersey and her younger sister the night of the murder. The child’s mother reported her missing the morning of Nov. 20; she was found shortly after police responded to the call, dead in an abandoned house.
Holly was arrested by police on Nov. 26 after he had called police and gone in for an interview. Prior to that police had swabbed him for DNA and taken samples of the clothing he had worn when the murder and rape took place.

The child’s mother said Holly had carried the sleeping 6-year-old to her bed where she slept with her younger sister after she picked them up from the Holly home.
According to a statement Holly gave police, he suffered from indigestion that night, got up and walked to the nearby EZ Mart where DesaRae Bridgeman’s boyfriend was working; he was documented on surveillance cameras. Holly claimed that he went back home and didn’t get up until he got his stepson ready for school.
Holly is being held without bond at the Benton County Jail.
Legal counsel appointed for him are private attorney Kent Mclemore and public defender Pat Ayedelott, both of Fayetteville, Ark.
The hearing on the Feb. 28 will be for attorneys to file motions.
