Bentonville, Ark. — A second mental evaluation with a private psychiatrist for Zachary Holly, accused murderer of 6-year-old Jersey Bridgeman, was granted Wednesday following a mental status hearing held before Division II Judge Brad Karren.
The private evaluation, requested by the defense, was granted after results of a mental evaluation performed by the state were sealed after the court hearing. The next mental status hearing for Holly has been scheduled at 8:30 a.m. July 25.
Zachary Holly has been charged with the murder, rape and kidnapping of his 6-year-old neighbor who he was babysitting the night she disappeared. Holly carried the child to her home and put her in bed with her younger sister before she came up missing the next morning. Police found Jersey dead in a vacant house not far from her home and Holly’s.
Holly was arrested six days after she was found when he came into the Sheriff ‘s Office to talk. Prior to his arrest Police had swabbed his DNA and had taken the clothing he had been wearing the night of her death.
Holly contended that he had gone out that night to buy indigestion medicine at a nearby convenient store where he was documented on camera. He said he went to bed and didn’t get up until he got his stepson ready for school the next morning.
Jersey’s accused killer was the second person in her short life to threaten her existence. Prior to living with her biological mother DesaRae Bridgeman here, Jersey spent time with her father and stepmother who are serving jail sentences for chaining the child up like a dog, inside the home.
