Mountain Home, Ark. — The finishing touches are reportedly being worked out in plea bargain negotiations for accused rapist William Leon Bardin, and 14th Judicial District Circuit Court Judge Gordon Webb Thursday granted a continuance in the case until June 19, when Bardin will reappear in court.
The Baxter County Prosecuting Attorney’s office today would only say that they are still in negotiations working out final details of a plea agreement.
Bardin, known as the ice cream truck rapist, is accused of raping a young girl and was arrested last September after the alleged victim wore a wire and got him to admit to the crime. He is accused of raping her at the age of 5 or 6 years old and continuing the abuse.
Bardin is currently out on $50,000 bond. He was represented in court Thursday by Johnnie Copeland of the Ethredge & Copeland law firm in Mountain Home.
Bardin and his wife have 16 children five, of their own and the rest adopted. His wife , Robin Bardin is free on recognizance after failing to return six minor children to the Department of Human Services last February. Her jury trial on a charge of custody interference is set for Oct. 31.
William Leon Bardin sold ice cream in the Twin Lakes area for several years. He was a resident of rural Cotter.
