The pair were originally stopped on a faulty brake light at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, went into a high speed chase and were corralled when the car they were driving broke down headed east on Highway 62/412, according to the Baxter County Sheriff.
The car was a ’01 black Subaru, a Poppa John’s Pizza Delivery vehicle stolen from the Hampton Inn in Branson on May 14. The pair eluded police in Branson after a high speed chase and got away again on May 17 when police tried to catch them near the Arkansas-Missouri line at Doniphan, Mo.
Cody Harrison Whorton, 26, of West Plains and Jessica Ann Carey, 38, of Mountain View, Mo., were both on foot when Baxter County Corporal Kristofer Savino ran them down and took them into custody.
Whorton is being held on $25,000 bond charged with fleeing by vehicle and possession of stolen property, both felonies. He is also charged with six misdemeanors including reckless driving, driving while intoxicated on drugs, no liability insurance, and no seat belt.
No bond has been set for his passenger Jessica Ann Carey, who has been charged with a variety of misdemeanors including public intoxication, fleeing by foot and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both are scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court on June 17.
