Briar, Mo. — A 17-year-old from Doniphan, Mo., was killed and four other youths were injured when a pickup truck overturned Friday night on Hwy. 160, 1 mile west of Briar, in Ripley County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Ethan B. Yount, 16, of Gatewood, Mo., was driving ’98 Chevy 1500 pickup east on Hwy. 160 when, at 10:35 p.m., the pickup ran off the road, Yount overcorrected and the truck overturned in the roadway. All five occupants, three male, two female, were ejected, police said.
Austin A. Elliott, 17, of Doniphan was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:20 p.m. by Ripley County Coroner Mike Jackson. His body was taken to Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan.
Yount was seriously injured and was Air Evaced to Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis.
Austin M. Arrowood, 15, of Doniphan was seriously injured, and she was Air Evaced to St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Alyssa J. Bailey, 17, of Doniphan was seriously injured, police said, and was taken by ambulance to Southeast Health Center of Ripley County in Doniphan. Tyler Barrett, 17, of Doniphan was moderately injured and was taken by ambulance to Southeast Health Center of Ripley County.
Austin’s funeral will be noon Wednesday in the chapel of Edwards Funeral Home, 606 Walnut St., Doniphan. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday.
