Garland County, Ark. — A 49-year-old motorcyclist from Hot Springs, Ark., was killed in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday morning on Hwy. 270 in Garland County.
Arkansas State Police said Johnny N. Newkirk, 49, of Hot Springs was riding his ’89 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on the inside lane of Hwy. 270. Police said a ’04 Cadillac Escalade driven by Raymond T. Smith, 43, was westbound on the inside lane and travelled into the center turn lane to make a left turn. Police said Newkirk attempted to pass a vehicle in the turn lane and struck the Cadillac head-on at 8:10 a.m.
Newkirk was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Hot Springs and was pronounced dead by Dr. Steven Halter at 10:04 a.m. The body was taken to Hot Springs Funeral Home.
Smith was not injured, police said.
