Houston, Mo. — The Thayer Bobcats bopped the Houston Tigers here Friday in a game almost totally controlled by the first string Bobcat football team 4l-20. For three quarters of the game the Tigers were overwhelmed by Bobcat defense and were held to a single touchdown until Thayer sent in their second and third string players. The Tigers scored two touchdowns in the final minutes of the game.
Bobcats jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first plays of the game and in the second quarter boosted it up to 14-0 on a 10-yard run by Tucker Hargrove.
Tigers spent most of their time in punt out city, and before the first half was over the Bobcats would score again on a Tucker Hargrove run to make the score 20-0 at the half. The two teams traded possessions at the end of the half on a Bobcat interception and a Tiger recovery of a Bobcat fumble, but nothing came of it.
Bobcats opened the second half with a spectacular 50-yard pass from Ayden Henry to Peyton Risner to the eight yard line to put them at first and goal to go in one play. Three more plays and William Tillman scored to pump the second half score up to 27-0 with the PAT.
Tiger quarterback Nate Poynter and his team went out on downs, and when the Bobcats got the ball again quarterback Ayden Henry drove the ball back to the goalposts on the back of William Tillman. Tillman carried the ball seven times including his 11-yard touchdown run to make the score 34-0 with a good PAT.
The Tigers turned the ball over on downs again, and the Bobcats fumbled a snap that put the Tigers in position to score their first touchdown of the game. Tiger quarterback Nate Poynter used running backs Malachi Sawyer and Scott Logan to take the ball to the 11 yard line, and Ty Wilkens took it in for the touchdown to make the score 34-6. The PAT failed.
Bobcats recovered an offside kick at the 46 yard line and roared right back for another touchdown by Matt Griffith to make the score 41-6 with the PAT by Landon Tyler.
Halfway through the fourth quarter Houston quarterback Nate Pointer threw a 46-yard completion to Ty Wilkens, and Logan took it five more yards for the touchdown to make the score 41-12. The two point conversion attempt failed.
Bobcat second string quarterback Daimon Langley took them down the road to punt out city, and the Tigers came back and scored. Tiger quarterback Poynter ran across the goal line to make the score 41-20 with the two point conversion.
Bobcats had the ball first and goal to go when time ran out.
