Willow Springs, Mo. — The Thayer Bobcats defeated the Willow Springs Bears here Friday night in an uneventful matchup and walked away with a 14-7 win.
Willow Springs Bears put up the first score early in the first quarter on a series of penalties by the Bobcat defense that carried the Bears to the Bobcat goal line and scored a touchdown from the 5 yard line with a drive by Ben Wake to make the score 7-0 with a good PAT.
That was the only Bear score. The Bobcat defense kept them away from the goal line for the rest of the game.
Still in the first quarter the Thayer Bobcats decided to give the ball to Braydon Pender, and as the second quarter opened he carried the ball over the goal line and a Tyler Landon kick tied the score at 7-7.
The Bears and the Bobcats went to punt out city for the rest of the quarter until as the seconds were counting down the Bobcats went back to Braydon Pender and William Tillman who caught a 5-yard Ayden Henry touchdown throw with seconds to go in the half to make the score 14-7 with a good PAT.
Bobcats went into the locker room at the half with a score of 14-7 hoping they had broken their two-game losing streak.
The second half was totally uneventful with neither side able to produce another score. The watchword for the second half was punt out city for both teams. Defense held for both sides and the game became static. With seconds to play in the game the Bears’ quarterback Lucas Combs was sacked on a fourth and six by Bobcat Bo Kafka, and that was as they say the “game.” Bobcats took a knee and walked away with a 14-7 victory. This puts the Bobcat record at 4-4 and left the Bears with a 3-5 record.
