FiremanThayer, Mo. — The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office today has ruled the the Little Rock Church fire here Friday was arson and was determined to be incendiary.
Thayer Police Chief Daryl Childers Monday said they have a suspect in the case and it is currently under investigation. He said they are waiting for the fire marshal’s report prior to taking any action in the case.
The fire was reported about 4:30 in the afternoon Friday and took Thayer firefighters until 9 p.m. to get it out. Fire Chief Mark Arnold said the fire started in the basement of the building and burned through a portion of the floor.
Chief Childers said that homeless people are not involved in starting the fire, and Chief Arnold said there is a criminal element to the case.
Chief Arnold said that when firefighters arrived at at the building there was smoke pouring out of the front and back of the building. The major damage was reported in the basement. The building, located at 8th and Pine off Business 63, was vacant at the time of the fire and utilities were not turned on.
