Thayer, Mo. — A 41-year-old Thayer man was charged today with setting fire to the Little Rock Church at 8th and Pine streets here late Friday afternoon.
A warrant for his arrest was issued by the Oregon County Prosecutor Jennifer Crask. He is charged with arson, a class C felony in the second degree.
The Thayer Police have arrested Quinton Lane Caldwell Jr., and he is being held in the Thayer City Jail on arson and a prior assault charge.
Thayer Police Chief Daryl Childers said Caldwell had left some things at the fire scene and was seen by several witnesses leaving the scene.
Caldwell was originally arrested the night of the fire on an unrelated assault charge.
Chief Childers praised officer Luke Martin for his work on the investigation.
Caldwell is being held on a $10,000 cash or surety bond for the arson charge and a $700 cash or $5,000 surety bond on and assault charge.
A quarter of the Little Rock Church building was destroyed by the fire which started in the basement and burned through the first floor. Damage was also done to the roof.
