Pulaski County, Ark. — A Jacksonville, Ark., woman was killed early Friday night after she had left her car and was standing in the Westbound lane of traffic on I-40 near mile marker 159.
Arkansas State Police said Velma Elliott was struck by a car merging into the westbound lane of traffic from Highway 440 that first hit her 1997 Ford in the rear and then struck her.
The ’06 Nissan was driven by Kevin Elrod, 37, of Cabot, Ark., who was not injured in the accident.
Police said a juvenile in the Elliott car also was not injured.
The victim was taken to the Pulaski County Coroner’s office.
Police said Elliott’s car was parked partially in the westbound lane of I-40 and on the emergency shoulder when the accident occurred.
Police were unable to provide the victim’s age.
