Scroggin testified for five hours during the trial and painted herself as a totally submissive and abused woman who killed her boyfriend on the way home from a trip to Little Rock because he allegedly lunged at her when they stopped on a gravel road on the way home.
Had the jury decided to go for capitol murder, Scroggin could have gotten life without parole . As it is, she will probably only have to serve 30 per cent of her sentence and could be eligible for parole in a little over two years.
During the trial the victim was portrayed by the defense as a controlling abusive person, a little short of a “collector.” The prosecutor called witnesses who described him as a loving gentle man who would not be in the kind of relationship described by Scroggin
The jury took about three and a half hours Friday to reach their verdict.
