Greenbrier, Ark. — A 48-year-old Fairfield Bay, Ark., woman was killed Thursday afternoon in Faulkner County as the car she was riding in hydroplaned out of control in the rain.
Arkansas State Police said Brigetta L. Smith died when the ’09 Dodge Avenger driven by 34-year-old Leeone A. Gilland of Clinton, Ark., spun out of control went into the southbound lane of U.S. Highway 65, north of Fenner Lane, and was struck in the rear by a second vehicle at 3:25 p.m.
Police said the southbound ’07 Ford van driven by Myra Jones, 42, of Conway, hit the Avenger when it veered into southbound traffic.
Gilland and Jones were injured in the crash and taken to Conway Regional Medical Center.
The victim was taken to the Faulkner County Coroner.
