Antioch, Tenn. — A would be shooter at a movie theater in suburban Nashville was thwarted by police today.
Armed with a gun and a hatchet and carrying two backpacks, the suspect entered the Carmike Theater 8, where “Mad Max” was being shown. Soon faced with police, he was chased by a SWAT team and shot dead.
One person received a minor injury from the hatchet. Three persons complained about the pepper spray the suspect used. No one was shot.
The suspect later was identified as Vincente Montano, 29, who was arrested on an assault charge in 2004 and was committed to mental health care four times between 2004 and 2007, police said. His gun was later identified as a BB gun.
This incident occurred during the week James Holmes likely will learn whether he faces the death penalty for the murder of 12 persons at an Aurora, Colo., theater in 2012
Wednesday’s violence comes nearly two weeks after a theater shooting in Lafayette, La. Gunman John Houser killed two people and wounded nine others before fatally shooting himself.
