All Quiet on the Ferguson Front last two nights
Ferguson, Mo. — Good news out of Ferguson for a change. St. Louis County Police reported a peaceful protest Tuesday and Wednesday nights in the corridor near West Florissant and Ferguson Ave.
Police did not wear riot gear; there were no arrests or reports of shots. Police and protesters were engaging in conversations during the night Wednesday and into Thursday morning.
Further, there were no burglaries, lootings or reports of property damage logged in, and there was no tear gas employed, police said.
A “State of Emergency” declared early in the week, however, will remain in effect at least through Friday.
Recent round of protests — on the one-year anniversary of the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown — had resulted in multiple arrests, shootings, an assault on a member of the St. Louis media, and a suspect shot by police on Aug. 9.
Former 8th District Congresswoman hospitalized abroad
She is reportedly in a Italian hospital after undergoing surgery for a brain hemorrhage. She is said to be in “stable condition,” according to spokesman.
Jo Ann Emerson succeeded her late husband Congressman Bill Emerson in 1996 and served as 8th District congresswoman until Jan. 22, 2013, when she resigned to become CEO of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
