Rookie quarterback Trevor Siemian wins game for Denver Broncos 14-10 against Houston Texans
Rookie quarterback Siemian deftly assembled a drive from the 8 yard line, and two minutes later scored the winning touchdown. He drilled a 26-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Corbin Louks and put the game out of field goal reach for the Texans winning 14-10 with Connor Barth’s PAT.
Denver star quarterback Peyton Manning played the first quarter and stayed in punt-out city plagued by receivers who couldn’t hang on to his passes. Even the great Demarius Thomas dropped a pass. At least Peyton was never sacked.
Broncos finally got into the red zone when Osweiler came alive and fired a 57-yard blast to wide receiver Andre Caldwell with the Brian McManus PAT to make the score 7-0. near the end of the second quarter.
Bronco defense held the Texan offense to a field goal but later allowed a pick six on an Osweiler interception that almost cost them the game.
For the most part both sides stayed in punt out city as both sides tested new players.
The Broncos pulled the game out of the fire at the last minute and went home with a 2-0 record after beating the Seahawks last week.
Broncos Head Coach Gary Kubiak was head coach at Houston for seven years until 2013. However he started as a player for Denver in 1983. Later he was quarterback coach and offensive coordinator there.
Broncos will play the San Francisco 49ers at home next Saturday and turn around and play the Arizona Cardinals to close the preseason the next Thursday night.
Regular Season opens up against the Baltimore Ravens Sunday, Sept. 13. Kubiak was offensive coordinator for the Ravens for one year before he joined the Broncos. Then the Broncos travel to Kansas City for a Thursday night game Sept. 17.
