Panthers set up residence in punt out city and went into their locker rooms at the half down to the Bobcats 24-0.
The Bobcats scored their first touchdown on a defense generated fumble on the fourth possession of the game when Tristan Short was strip tackled and Bobcats boogied to the goal line to make it 7-0 with a good PAT from Landon Tyler.
At the opening of the second quarter the Bobcats had a touchdown wiped out on a penalty and had to settle for a Landon Tyler field goal to make the score `10-0. Then, with a little over three minutes left in the half, Bobcats intercepted a Carter Otwell pass and ran a 14-yard touchdown to make the score 17-0 with a good PAT. They came back with seconds to go and powered a 24-yard pass to Spencer Ary to the 6 yard line, and Matt Griffith went in second and goal from the 1 yard line with a good Tyler PAT to make the score 24-0 as the half closed down.
After being shut out for the first half the Panthers opened the second half with a boom. Panther running back Trystan Short grabbed a kick return and brought it back 75 yards to break the shutout 24-6. The two point conversion failed.
The Panthers then renewed their acquaintance with punt out city, and the Bobcats paid it a few visits until Braydon Pender ran over the goal line from the 2 yard line following a Bobcat interception by Tucker Hargrove. This bumped the score up to 31-6 as the fourth quarter opened up.
Then, as the fourth quarter progressed, Bobcat Garrett Young fumbled the ball away to Mountain Grove, and Chance Barbe scored a touchdown from the 9 yard line and D.J. McNew punched through the two point conversion to make the score 31-14.
With seconds left in the game the Bobcats picked up a personal foul against Mountain Grove which put them in the red zone again, and Garrett Young scored from the 5 yard line to put icing on the cake, with a good Tyler PAT, 38-14.
Friday nights win puts the Bobcats at 8-1, and the Mountain Grove Panthers at 7-2. Bobcats now get a bye week before they go to district play.
The Thayer Bobcats, previously ranked ninth among Class 1 schools, picked off Mountain Grove, previously ranked fourth among Class 3 schools.
In 2014, Mountain Grove defeated the Bobcats 46-0 Oct. 17 at Thayer. In 2013 the Panthers defeated Thayer 14-0 Oct. 25 at Mountain Grove.

In Arkansas, it was Highland Rebels losing44 to 15 to Gosnell, Batesville over Wynn 31-14; Walnut Ridge lost to Marked Tree 41-12, Salem, Ark., lodt to Earle 48-14, .Pocahontas over Cave City 46-14, Jonesboro lost to North Little Rock 70-64, and Jonesboro West Side defeated Brookland 27-12.
