Thayer BobcatThayer, Mo. — The Thayer Bobcats looked like they were taking a catnap but woke up in time to trounce the Cabool Bulldogs 36-8 at Louis Bozman Field here Friday night
In their first possession of the game the Bobcats developed a case of the fumbles and turned the ball over to Cabool whose Caleb Manning rumbled 50 yards to the Bobcat 5 yard line.
Bobcat defense held on the touchdown and then, when the Bulldogs were attempting a 32-yard field goal the Bobcats roughed the kicker and gave Cabool a new set of downs from the 7 yard line. Quarter back Tanner Barnes took it in for the touchdown, and the two-point conversion was good to make the score 8-0.
That woke the Bobcats up, and when it looked like they were headed straight to punt out city the Bobcats recovered a missed punt at the 25 yard line and Tucker Hargrove caught a 25 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ayden Henry and they picked up the two-point conversion to tie the score 8-8.
Cabool BulldogThat was the last time the Cabool Bulldogs scored in the game, and the Thayer defense kept them in punt out city for the rest of the game.
By the end of the first half the score was Bobcats 22, Cabool 8. The Bobcats’ Braydon Pender intercepted Cabool at the 20 yard line and took the ball in from the 5 yard line to make the score 14-8. On the next Bobcat possession Pender on a 4th and one blazed out a 45-yard run, and with the two point conversion made the score going into the locker room 22-8.
In the second half on their first possession the Bulldogs turned the ball over on downs at their 35 yard line and Ayden Henry threw a 20 yard touchdown pass to William Tillman to make the score 29-8.
Bulldog quarterback Tanner Barnes decided to carry the ball himself and won a few first downs. but even though he managed to hang onto the ball and keep it away from the Bobcats for the rest of the third quarter, he still turned the football over on downs. Welcome to turnover on downs city!
The fourth quarter saw Bobcat star running back Braydon Pender score his third touchdown of the night on a 30-yard touchdown run to make the score with a good Landon Tyler PAT 36-8.
The Bobcat final attempt to score was a 34-yard Landon Tyler field goal that was blocked.
Bulldogs were blanked after their first score in the first quarter, and the Bobcats after winning in the district semi-finals will play the Marionville Comets in the district finals next Friday night at Thayer. The Comets are now 11-1 after defeating the 10-1 Lockwood Tigers 48-32. The Bulldogs surprised the Pierce City Eagles 27-26 in the first round district playoff game last Friday at Pierce City.
The Bobcats are 9-1, and the Cabool Bulldogs will end their season 1-10. The Bobcats earlier this year defeated the Bulldogs 43-0 in Cabool Sept. 25. In 2014 the Bulldogs defeated the Bobcats 16-14 in Thayer’s homecoming game Sept. 26. In 2013 the Bobcats beat the Bulldogs 58-27 Oct. 4 in Cabool.
