Chicago-Bears-LogoChicago, Ill. — The battling Chicago Bears lost in overtime Sunday to the San Francisco 49ers who won on a 71-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass 26-20.
Playing in Soldier Field in good weather for Chicago the Bears got on the score board in first quarter with two field goals by Robbie Gould to make the score 6-0.
Still in the first quarter the 49er s intercepted a Jay Cutler pass at the 33 yard line and 49ers defensive back Jimmy Ward took the ball in for the touchdown, to tie the score at 6-6 with a blocked PAT.
Bears bounced right back with a combo of quarterback Jay Cutler and running back Matt Forte on an 80-yard drive with Forte scoring on a 5-yard touchdown to make the score 13-6.
49ers49ers quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who played college ball for the Mizzou Tigers, assembled his troops and worked his way to the Bears red zone driving to the 1 yard line; running back Shaun Draughn went in for the touchdown to tie it up 13-13 with a good PAT.
The Bears went to visit Head Coach John Fox at halftime in a 13-13 knot.
The Bears started the second half with a missed field goal by Robbie Gould. Then, they spent time in Punt Out City.
Bears went into their fourth quarter clutch, started at their 16 yard line and Cutler used Matt Forte, Alshon Jeffery, and Marc Mariani to get to the red zone three yard line. Kareem Carey scored with a good PAT to make it 20-13.
49ers quarterback Gabbert scrambled and then ran 44 yards at the two minute warning to tie the game and go to overtime.
Bears went down in overtime with a missed Robbie Gould field goal and two visits to punt out city. Then a Blaine Gabbert 71-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Torrey Smith won the game 26-20.
The Bears are now 5-7 and next week play the Washington Redskins in Chicago. The Redskins are 5-7 after losing 19-6 Sunday to the Dallas Cowboys, who now are 4-8. The following week the Bears play the Minnesota Vikings at Minneapolis; the Vikings are 8-4 after losing 38-7 to the Seattle Seahawks Sunday.
The 49ers now are 4-8 and next play the Cleveland Browns, who are 2-10 after losing 37-3 to the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday.
