West Plains, Mo. — Attached to this post are several Hill ’n Holler photos of the “Hugs for Frank” rally Saturday, April 9, at Southern Hills Shopping Center in West Plains.
A crowd of about 400 persons turned out for the “Hugs for Frank” rally supporting Frank Swanson, the long-time Walmart employee who had been fired here by the behemoth corporation.
The rally was generally peaceful, and there were numerous signs in support of Frank.
Many, many people, including Frank, were wearing Hugs for Frank T-Shirts.
Frank was overwhelmed by the whole thing, and many former Walmart employees turned up for the event.
There were TV cameras, I was there for the Hill ’n Holler Review, and one group was filming for a documentary.
Frank and I laughed about the first time I met him about 19 years ago when he was working at Walmart busy stocking milk and I was dodging around trying to avoid an oncoming cart and tripped over his feet.
Recently, Frank who was a cashier, had been hugging his customers, many of whom stood in line to see him. He was reportedly fired because Walmart disapproved of the hugs and disagreed over a sale price which had been advertized.
Reportedly Swanson had been with the company 20 days short of 20 years when he was fired.
The rally, which was organized on Facebook, drew attention from people as far away as Germany and Arizona and other states, including Louisiana and Texas.
