Baxter County, Ark. — A 27-year-old Horseshoe Bend, Ark., man was found dead hanging from a tree here Sunday after he had been missing since May 27.
The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office reported that Weldon G. Speirs II had been found by a family member in a wooded area off of Wild Fern Lane near Highway 5 South.
Speirs had apparently caught his foot in a crevice of the tree and was not able to free himself. Police said he was found suspended upside down in a large cedar tree.
The victim’s car was found at a friend’s house on Wild Fern Lane, and it was not known why Speirs went into the wooded area.
The victim’s body was sent to the State Medical Examiner to determine cause of death. Police said at this time it is considered an accidental death.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Calico Rock Funeral Chapel with Donnie Speak officiating. Burial will be at Spring Creek Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home.
