Evan McMullin, 40, was an agent with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) from 2001 through 2011, serving in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, spearheading counterterrorism and intelligence operations in some of the most dangerous places on earth.
He then worked at the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs in the San Francisco Bay Area
In 2013 he became a senior advisor to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and later became the chief policy director of the House Republican Conference.
McMullin announced his candidacy Monday saying, “Its never too late to do the right thing and give millions of disaffected Americans a conservative choice for president.”
News of his candidacy was seen in The Guardian, Buzz Feed and on ABC News.
McMullin was a ‘Never Trump’ proponent and has set up a web site under www.evanmcmullin.com.
He has issued a “Letter to the American People” stating : “Like millions of Americans I had hoped this year would bring us better nominees who despite party differences could offer compelling visions of a better future. Instead we have been left with two candidates who are fundamentally unfit for the profound responsibilities they seek.”
McMullin criticizes both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, saving his real ire for Trump. “Given his obvious personal instability putting him in command of our military and nuclear arsenal would be deeply irresponsible. His infatuation with strongmen and demagogues like Vladimir Putin is anathema to American values. We cannot and must not elect him.”
His full letter and other information can be found on his web page.

McMullin is expected to file his paperwork to seek election this afternoon.
Reportedly other higher ranked Republicans are expected to come out in McMullin’s support.
